The Meikleour Beech Hedge is a breathtaking sight to behold. On the A93 road around four miles south of Blairgowrie it is the longest hedge in Britain and the tallest in the world. It reaches 30 metres (98 feet) in height and is 530 metres (1740 feet) in length.
The hedge is mentioned in the Guinness World Records and visitors from around the globe come to admire and photograph this world-beating wonder. It was planted in the autumn of 1745 by Jean Mercer and her husband, Robert Murray Nairne on the Marquess of Lansdowne’s Meikleour estate.
